AVE Foundation Inc. offers women a real spiritual identity, not symbolic or promotional, but rooted in Church history. Here is the truth most people don’t realize: John the Apostle (John the Divine) was not only a witness to the Revelation of Jesus Christ, he wrote all that Christ revealed to him, but also the Apostle most associated with women followers. After the crucifixion of Jesus, Christ entrusted Mary, the Mother of Jesus, to John. “Behold your mother.” John 19:27 From that moment forward, Christian tradition holds that John became the protector and spiritual guide to a community of holy women.

Early Church Tradition

In Ephesus (where John later lived), historical Christian writings record that:

• Widows
• Consecrated women
• Female disciples
• Early Christian caretakers

These women gathered around John and lived lives of prayer, service, and support of the apostolic mission. They were not nuns (monasticism didn’t exist yet). They were called: “Consecrated” and “Holy Women of the Apostle.” AVE Foundation is reviving the first female apostolic support order in Christianity. The Sisters of John the Divine become: The modern spiritual heirs of the women who supported the last living apostle while he received Revelation of Jesus Christ on Patmos. The mission is spiritually coherent.
